Koh Lanta

Koh Lanta SunsetIn the southernmost region of Thailand's Krabi Province there are 52 islands, situated in the Andaman sea, of which the largest and best-known is Koh Lanta Yai. Part of the island is Koh Lanta National Park which comprehends over 15 islands in the near neighbourhood. Koh Lanta Noi is the smaller of the two islands and doesn't offer tourist properties. Koh Lanta Yai is a long thin island, just about 30 kilometers long and six kilometers wide. It is perhaps the most idyllic area available where quiet and peace is not hard to find. Koh Lanta is most easily reached from Krabi Town by hired car or bus. A vehicle ferry provides access to Ban Sala Dan the main port at the northern end of the island. Ban Sangkha-U is a traditional southern fishing village, it is an excellent place to experience the character of the local people. The main circular road of the village is unpaved and you'll find there only a few cars, as on most of the island.

Beaches are the main places of interest in Koh Lanta. Along the whole western coast there are a number of beautiful beaches, each of them with its own charm and characteristic, from which you are able to look out on stunning sunsets.

Koh Lanta Beach Close to the island you will find a lot of great dive spots with wonderful corals and abundant species of tropical fish.

Koh Lanta is a lot quieter than the other islands in Thailand. That makes it a great place to stay if you just want to kick back and relax on a long white beach with cooling sea breeze. Koh Lanta offers a great combination of good winds, stunning scenery and prices that are still affordable to the average vacationer.
