How to go to Koh Samet
Koh Samet is not so far from Pattaya and about 180 km from Bangkok, less than a half day's traveling distance. Most visitors take a boat from Bhan Phe Pier to go to Koh Samet that goes most frequently or hire a more expensive speedboat. The distance between the island and the mainland is just about 7 km. It is wise to travel light and wear shorts as with either speedboat or ferry once you reach Koh Samet you have to hop into the mid-calf deep water to go the last few meters. At Ban Phe Pier they offer also package tours to travel to the neighbor islands of Koh Kudee and Koh Talu by speedboat.
Things to do in Koh Samet
Koh Samet is an island with kilometres-long beaches that let you enjoy the day with various kinds of water sport. The most popular activities are snorkeling, scuba diving, canoeing, sailing, and windsurfing. Due to its shallow corals Koh Samet is a great place for open water divers who want leisurely diving. Koh Samet fishing adventure tours is another great activity, going out to sea early in the morning to catch various species available and returning back in the afternoon.
Travelers are able to hop over from one beach to the next either by foot or by using one of the pick-up trucks that run around the island. Another option is traveling by private van or car. At Ban Phe, there are numerous parking lots that offer rental space for the vehicle for a few hours or even for many days.
Where to stay in Koh Samet
Koh Samet is a well-developed island with most of its beaches crammed with villas and bungalows. Koh Samet is becoming more and more popular each year and the prices are rising, however, in comparison with most other island destinations like Koh Samui etc. the rates for accommodation are really inexpensive.
The northern end of the island is the most developed part. There is no nightlife at the island. You'll only find some restaurants and late night bars for more social travelers.
As far as the weather is concerned, Koh Samet offers dry weather that makes it a good place to go to there on the rainy season as well.
