Tenerife Island Holidays

Tenerife Island by NightAs the largest island in the seven Canary Islands of the Atlantic Ocean off the African coast, Tenerife is a popular destination for tourists and casual vacationers alike, particularly those who came from the United Kingdom. The mass tourism boom, which happened as people started taking advantage of cheap flights from UK to Tenerife, resulted in people adopting the original spelling of its name. The island that was called "Teneriffe" in English is now more commonly spelled only with one F, "Tenerife".

For tourists who have decided on visiting Tenerife this time of the year, luck is certainly on their side, since tourism is the most prominent industry in the Canaries, and Tenerife itself is one of the more famous major tourist destinations in the world. In 2006 alone, more than nine million tourists have already visited the canaries and 3 and a half million of those arrivals were in Tenerife. It has been stated that the majority of tourists who visit the Canaries came from the United Kingdom.

Tenerife Island Los ChristianosThe southern part of Tenerife is a little bit hotter and drier than the rest, which prompted the need for many well-equipped resorts such as the Los Cristianos and the Playa de las Americas. What makes it even better for tourists is the fact that the Canarian Parliament has passed the Moratoria act, which forbids any hotels to be built on the island unless they are classified and rated as 5-star in quality. The act also mandates the presence of different services such as Golf courses and Congress facilities. In line with Moratoria's original intention, the act was responsible for improving the standards of tourism in the canaries and has helped bolster the already impressive tourist industry in their area.

In terms of transport, two major airports, the Tenerife North Airport (TFN) and the Tenerife South Airport (TFS) serve the Tenerife. Upon reaching the northern airport, called Rodeos Airport, a tourist can easily take a train ride straight to Santa Cruz-La Laguna, which is a metropolitan area and has inter-insular flights as well as national and European flights.Tenerife Island Drago Millenario Recently, they have also started offering a weekly service to Venezuela. Not that a lot of flights from UK to Tenerife tend to arrive in the Rodeos airport, since it is the smaller of the two major Tenerife Airports.

Tourists who come to Tenerife expecting a large and exciting social scene will not be disappointed, since both Playa de las Americas and Los Cristianos frequently play host to 24 hour parties filled with friendly locals and partying tourists like yourself. Those who are more introspective and yearn for a more sophisticated vacation are not left out, though, since heading inland or to the northern parts of Tenerife allows them to explore and experience the island's more natural beauties.
